The present tax climate puts great strain on personal taxpayers and business people alike to fulfil their compliance obligations, so people need their accountant to be organised, contactable and proactive to help look after their needs. We have a small team at Beltons and this enables us to meet these client demands in full. We are always keen to help individuals or businesses to manage their affairs well, and we offer the first meeting free of charge where your requirements can be discussed.  We will also be happy to provide you with a fee quotation on request, once your needs have been established.

Our policy is to charge a fee based on the time spent on the client work undertaken, commensurate with the degree of skill involved. We are also able to provide quotations and agree fixed fees. Our standard credit terms are 30 days, unless an arrangement has been made with you to extend this period, or an agreement has been made for payment by instalments.

A significant number of prospective new clients have complained that their existing accountant has neglected their needs, or has let their affairs drift. Here at Beltons we place great importance on maintaining regular contact with all of our clients so important deadlines are not missed and our records are kept up to date. Many of our long-standing clients who move out of Sussex for business and personal reasons choose to remain with us because they know the extra distance will not affect the quality of service they will continue to receive. Nicholas Belton ACCA, MA (Hons)

is a director and joined the practice in 1997. Nick holds a practising certificate with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and works closely with new clients, including personal tax cases, sole traders, partnerships and limited companies and identifies the particular needs of each client. 

His main role is the preparation of accounts, the production of Tax Returns and liaison with the client regarding compliance matters and general business advice. He also manages the client payroll service function.

Helen Thwaite MAAT

is an Accountant / Business Advisor and joined the practice in March 2008. Helen is already a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT) and is about to sit her final Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) exams with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in July 2008.

Helen brings with her a wealth of accounting experience with 7 years in Public Practice and previously 5 years in a Commercial role.

Helen’s main role will be the preparation of Accounts to draft stage, the production of Tax Returns and liaison with clients regarding compliance matters and general business advice.

Susie Farrell

is the Assistant Accountant / Bookkeeper and joined Beltons in January 2008. Susie is nearing the completion of her AAT studies (Association of Accounting Technicians) and has three years accounts experience in both commercial and public practice.

Susie will be responsible for the preparation of accounts to trial balance and will be available to provide bookkeeping services to our clients.  Susie can also assist clients to set up a system with which to keep their own financial records.

Valerie Belton

is a director and has managed the development of the Beltons business since 1976. She has many years of experience advising start-up businesses on bookkeeping and accounting issues, and is the Compliance Manager for Beltons client list of Limited companies.

Julie Belton

is the Office and Human Resources Manager and joined the practice in September 2006. She is responsible for all office administration, credit control and Human Resources.

Julie is a member of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) and brings with her a great deal of experience in the field of human resources, recruitment and staff management.

Julie can provide HR services and advice for existing Beltons clients from recruitment and writing contracts to managing employee absence.

Julie has recently achieved the OCR Certificate in Book keeping and the OCR Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.
